Sept 10, 2009 - Denali Highway

Making our way south from Carlo Creek on the Parks Highway, following along the Nenana River valley

Turn east onto the Denali Highway, a mostly gravel route which runs some 135 miles in between the Alaska Range to the north and the Talkeetna Mountains to the south...."through the heart of wild Alaska", says our bible (The Alaska Milepost), Views of southeastern face of The HIgh One this morning from the bridge at Fish Creek.
A young calf moose cross the highway, watch her grazing in the willows on the shore of a pond.
Follow the Nenana River east to it's glacial source the Alaska Range, 3 dominant peaks stand out, visible all morning, Mount Deborah, Mount Hess, and Mount Hayes...many glaciers spread down the slopes through the gaps in the front range.

Cross the bridge over the Maclaren River, passing through Tangle Lakes, up onto a high plateau filled with small 'kettle' ponds.
